The name references Harry Houdini (1874-1926), the world-famous illusionist and escape artist known for spectacular stunts. The character Roger 'Verbal' Kint in 'The Usual Suspects' (1995) is nicknamed 'Houdini' for his ability to vanish mysteriously.
