Checkers - the famous dog owned by Richard Nixon, mentioned in his 1952 'Checkers speech' when he defended himself against accusations of improper campaign contributions. The black and white dog became a symbol of political loyalty. Also appears as a character in Disney's 101 Dalmatians (1961) as one of the puppies.
